When I was a kid, it’s so fascinating watch adults use walkie talkie radio to talk with someone far. It’s also looks so modern for a kid. Walkie talkie radio is dreaming toy and always give best fun level.
At that time, walkie talkie radio was working on 27 Mhz frequency. Not sure why is that. But I think it’s caused by 27Mhz is free band where CB radio and walkie talkie can work without license needed.
And nowaday walkie talkie radio is working on 462 Mhz where FRS/GMRS communication system had their frequency slot. Maybe term of “walkie talkie” also replaced with term of “FRS/GMRS”.
Some advantages are obtain with this frequency shifting. At least modern walkie talkie radio give better audio quality (they use FM modulation for walkie talkie) and also the walkie talkie size can be shrinked phisically. So now it’s common when we saw walkie talkie radio as small as watch wrist in kid hands.
